Britain Secures Landmark Deal with China

This week the British Dairy Industry agreed a deal with China to approve imports on cream, yoghurt and milk powder products that are made in the UK but use milk from other countries.

The breakthrough deal is estimated to be worth £240 million between 2019-2024 and helps to secure business for the UK dairy industry ahead of Brexit. The deal was officially agreed by International Secretary of Trade, Dr Liam Fox at a UK China Joint Economic and Trade meeting.

Dr Fox who works to boost UK global trade figures said, ‘This is my fourth visit to China this year and I’m delighted to see the completion of this deal, bringing significant benefits to dairy producers across the UK at a time when British food and drink exports are at a record high.’

Traditionally, the Chinese diet does not contain dairy and many Asians are lactose intolerant. Despite this, a bigger influence from the West and the nutritious benefits mean that the demand for dairy products in China is growing rapidly.
